CHANCELLOR, HARRISON, TALLEY Gilbert Chancellor born ca1786 SC and Catherine Harrison born ca1790 came to Alabama ca1820. Marriage records show Gilbert as security for a marriage in Wilcox County in 1825. One of their sons, William, married Nancy Talley but I have not been able to find the record of their marriage. Gilbert and Catherine had a large family which scattered in Wilcox, Butler and adjoining counties and aventually to Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas. I would like to correspond with anyone interested in the Chancellors and related families and will be glad to share any information that I have. Thanks,Elizabeth...

BETHEA Looking for information on the children of John "Jack" Bethea and his wife Martha Jane Peavy, daughter of Joshua Peavy. The family, I believe is listed on the 1850 census as Bethen. I believe their son Watt, born after 1850, was my grandfather. I have Kinfolks by Harlee that list children different than those listed on the 1850 census. Kinfolfs shows sons Jess, John, Watt and daughters Mary and two named Buta. I am pretty certain they had a daughter named Amanda since I have visited the grave of Martha in Canoe Al and her daughters Mary and Amanda are buried on each side of her. Any information would be appreciated.

Mandeville-Cook-Blackmon-I am a descendant of Margaret Cook, oldest daughter of Daniel Cook of Possum Bend, Wilcox County Alabama, and David Mandeville. I am also interested to know of sisters and Bothers of Margaret, especially Mary Ruth who married William Blackmon of same county (migrated to Texas 1870s). Siblings of Margaret migrated to Freestone County in the 1850s. Margaret and David did also, but something happened to David-seems to have dropped of the planet. If anyone knows of the Cook-Mandeville-Blackmon families or are descendants, I can help you as many are buried in Freestone county, Texas. Martha is listed as the 3 year old daughter of Mary and William Blackmon on the 1850 Wilcox County census-would love to know of her. It is the lore that David Mandeville was a shady character. If someone knows anything of this man, good or bad, please submit to me. Am desparate at this point.

McNEILL, YOUNG, NEVILLE; Mt. Progress Community Mary Ann McNEILL was born in 1819 near Suggsville, in Clarke Co., AL, a daughter of Hector and Elizabeth (McNEILL) McNEILL. According to her 1902 obituary, when Mary Ann was very young, her family moved for a few years to Blacks Bend in Wilcox Co., and then to Mt. Progress, where she married William Lewis YOUNG (1841). After his death in 1848, Mary Ann again lived with her parents in Mt. Progress until she married Hillman NEVILLE in 1852. Can anyone tell me where "Mt. Progress" was, and/or what it might be called today? As far as I can tell, the McNEILL family lived in 1850 along Highway 41 NE of Camden, about halfway between Camden and the Dallas Co. line. Was this area called Mt. Progress? Thanks for any info on Mt. Progress! Ron Head (Montgomery, AL) ronhead@knology.net

HILL--I am an African American trying to find my ancestors in the Wilcox County, Camden, Alabama area. I found out that they were slaves on the Tait Plantation in the Possum Bend area. My great, great, freat grandfather's name was Mr. Square Hill, Sr. His wife's name was Emily (Emma) Watson Hill. Square's mother's name was Winnie Hill and her husband's name was Nathan Hill. Square's children names were Frank (missing), Read which could possibly have been Robert (missing), Willie (Will), David, Nathan, Mary Ann, Nettie, Clara, Emma, Flora, Luella, and Square Jr. I know where some of them are but there are two (Frank and Read) that I don't know the whereabouts. If there is anyone who has heard an ancestor talk about Possum Bend or Camden, AL please contact me. I would very much like to get to know my relatives or at least find their final resting place.

My Brick Wall: I would appreciate any help on my Hooks ancestor. Zylphia Hooks married Asberry Luker (b. 1807 in GA) on December 02, 1825, in Wilcox County, Alabama. Their child, William P. Luker, born 1828, in Wilcox County, Alabama, is my line. He had brothers Simon/Simeon(b. 1834) and Alexander (b. 1836). They may have had a sister Elizabeth that married A. J. Grice. Zylphia Hooks was probably born between 1800-1810 according to census. She died about 1838. Who were parents or siblings. (Asberry married Mary McHaney on June 19, 1839, in Wilcox County, Alabama.) CHANCE- BOUTWELL Is there anyone out there that can tell me how the Chance's and the Sharp's are related? I have become the owner of a couple of ledger's that kept up with the attendee's of the annual Chance reunion's and though there are alot more surname's on there, I find it most interesting that there were ALOT of Sharp's that attend. I know that my grandmother had a first cousin that married a Sharp back in the early 1900's, but the Chance name was still carried due to the fact HE was a Chance. Any help would be appreciated. REAVES CHAPEL CEMETERY. While researching Israel and Jane Davis at the Wilcox County Library in Camden, I ran across a cemetery transcript for Reaves Chapel Cemetery that indicated "The original cemetery held earliest settlers - was demolished by Vredenburgh Sawmill Company workers - some graves were re-located to Reaves Chapel Cemetery". BRADLEY, JENKINS. Maria Bradley (born around 1823) married Thomas Jenkins of or near Wilcox/ Monroe county, Alabama. Both Thomas and Maria died of evidently common cause in about 1853. They had at least four children, John Edwin (my gr.grandfather), Margaret, and a set of twins. Unknown to me if twins were boys, girls or one of each. The twins were taken by the Bradley grandparents to raise. John Edwin and Margaret were taken by their grandfather Dr. Edwin Jenkins to raise. Can anyone tell me about the twins or any thing about the Bradley family. I am told the county line moved in boundary disputes and the family could have been in either Wilcox or Monroe county at different times. Dr. Edwin Jenkins father was Joseph Jenkins who is buried at Jenkins Cemetery in Wilcox county. There are several other relative buried there, but is Thomas and Maria are they are in unmarked graves.
