[owoodson] Hello

>> grandbay has joined channel #XC.2115614

[clifford34] bjs22, have you heard about the heritage book completion?

[clifford34] gradnbay, who are you researching?

[grandbay] Hello all, I am interested in HARPER, HADDOX, DEES, AND DUNNAM - families.

[VickyAL124] [clifford34] grandbay, Dunnam is related to the jenkins family of mine?

[clifford34] owoodson, do you know if any new jones information is at the - library

[grandbay] Ouida, I have talked with you in the past about my ancestors, - specifically James T. Harper b 1802 SC and came to Wilcox county abt. 1817. - I am trying to locate his parents but have been unsuccessful to date

[owoodson] No, not that I know of.

[grandbay] clifford, the

>> willisdp2 has joined channel #XC.2115614

[owoodson] Yes, I remember. I read about some Harper records in Sumter Co. , - SC, have you checked that county?

[clifford34] grandbay, what did you say? I only saw part of your message.

[grandbay] Dunnam family is in my lineage on both paternal and maternal. I - have a good bit of information on that family most of which came from James - Dunnam.

[grandbay] woodson, I have checked Sumter county S

[clifford34] I have found some information on the internet and with Wilcox - Co.,Alabama web site on Dunnam.

[willisdp2] Type HEREHi Ouida - I finally got on Pat P

[clifford34] willisdp2, who are you researching?

[willisdp2] Farish/Mims/Etc.

[owoodson] Hello, Pat glad you did.

[grandbay] Woodson, I have checked Sumter County but tradiston has it that - James T. came from Edgefield county. I have been there an could not locate a - connection to him.

[VickyAL124] [owoodson] Wonder which families he came to Wilcox with?

[willisdp2] Ouida - Can you find out if E.S.'s wife name was dpelled Dona or - Donee?

[owoodson] Census spelling is Dona.

>> BROADNAX0 has left channel #XC.2115614

[willisdp2] OK..tks that is what I had but every where I look is the other.

[grandbay] woodson, I found a listing in the Sanford library of Union List of - Newspapers which indicates that there are copies of the Wilcox Vindicator - that go back to 1865-1878 on file in the court house. Are you aware of these - records?

[clifford34] owoodson, I think that Richard Futch came with the Watford - family from Dale co., Alabama or Jackson Co.,Fl

[owoodson] The newspapers are not at the courthouse. There are copies of the - Vindicator at the Archives, but they are from the 1870s.

[owoodson] We have the Vindicator on microfilm at the Courthouse. Only a few - copies of the 1860s newspapers exist now. Do you have the date the list was - drawn up that you found?

[willisdp2] Ouida - do you know a jwhibbs there. I ran into him on a web - page. He saaid he lived on the onld Farish Place?

[owoodson] No, I don't recognize him.

[grandbay] James T. Harper died in 1863 according to a family bible but I do - not know where he died or where he is buried. I had hoped that the papers - might list obits from 1865 but you say the y do not go back that far. The - data from Sanford shows them going back to 1865. I do not have a date that - the list was drawn up but it lists Newspapers by town.

[owoodson] The Wilcox Pacificator goes back to 1868-69 and they are the - earliest that I am aware of now. There might be a copy or two of earlier - papers, but not many.

[owoodson] I don't know anything about Monroe County newspapers, but you - might check to see if there was an active one in 1865. He lived close enough - to Monroe that a notice of death might be in it.

[grandbay] Ok, Thanks anyhow. I am grasping for straws now but I hoped that - I could find an obit that might list the parents of James T. I believe that - he may have died in Choctaw County or possibly even Clark count in - Mississippi but I have not been able to ascertain this

[willisdp2] Moroeville had one or two about that time - I think one is still - publishing

[clifford34] Cliff, has to go.

[VickyAL124] by cliff

[owoodson] Good night, Cliff

>> clifford34 has left channel #XC.2115614

[grandbay] James T. had a son who was named James Terrel Harper who did live - in Monroe county. He was the grandfather of Armistead and Robison Harper of - Monroeville.

[owoodson] A lot of times the newspapers would pick up obits from other - newspapers. The paper in Camden published the notice of my great-great - grandfather's death as it was published in Yalobusha County, MS in 1869. So - any of the papers in the surrounding area could have picked up James T.'s.

[owoodson] That's three great instead of two grandfather.

[grandbay] I will look into the possibility of an obit for him in Monroe - county.

[owoodson] Hope you can find it.

[willisdp2] Ouida is Nellie close to where Hazelwood lived?

[owoodson] I think so. I have heard of Nellie, but it is not a location I - can immediately place.

[grandbay] woodson,The Harper's are having another reunion in Camden on June - 16th. Why don't you and Sam join us for the day?

[owoodson] Perhaps we can, I will mention it to him.

[grandbay] Woodson, Good,I'll send you the particulars via e-mail.

[owoodson] All right.

[VickyAL124] [owoodson] Which West family are you researching, Vicky

[VickyAL124] birdie mae west w/o roy morgan- her father was parson wiley - west

>> willisdp2 has left channel #XC.2115614

[boomack] Ms. McCall have children and grandchildren in Atlanta. I am - putting closure on my werbsite and Ms. McCall just recently sent me - information on the Presbyterian schools. My great, great aunt, Jenny - McArthur taught her mother in Marengo County.

bjs22> boomack, no I didn't get to Selma. Trying to make a trip sometime in - April. Really have to get back to ADAH and go through the archives. There's - some great stuff there.

[boomack] I mean in were you in Camden the first weekend in October?

[boomack] Quite a few people were at the Bridge Crossing in Selma. I saw - Frazine Taylor. Do you know her from the ADAH?

[VickyAL124] bjs22> Small world. My aunts and uncles went to Prairie and to Millers Ferry. - One aunt taught at Prairie and Ms McCall remembered her name. Said that her - mother knew my family and that we might be related somehow. My folks were - also from Marengo, right on the line.

[owoodson] Is Mrs. McCall through with her writing about the schools?

bjs22> Can't remember which week. It was homecoming, I remember that because - the library closed early.

bjs22> I've met Frazine but don't know her.

bjs22> No Ouida but she's bringing fotos for me this weekend. I'm very - interested in the preservation effort.

[boomack] My aunt went to school in Millers Ferry also. She taught in Wilcox - and Dallas Counties. I was told that Mr. Hobbs gave her the first teaching - job. Did you know Mr. Hobbs? I met Frazine at a Genealogy Workshop in - Chicago several years ago. She have given me so many tips in my research. - Ouida, Ms. McCall told me that she is still working on her project.

[owoodson] I haven't talked with her lately, so didn't know if she had - finished it.

bjs22> Ouida, do you know the origin of Norrisville that was once located - east of Camden? I broadcasted my Norris query again today so this is on my - mind.

[boomack] BJ, what are some of the surnames that you are researching?

[owoodson] I read your Norris query--yes, it was named for a man named Samuel - Norris who was the area's first settler or at least one of them. He was the - first postmaster there.

bjs22> Main surname is NORRIS. Also, Thomas, Jones, Edwards, Mixon, Irby, - Hazel, Hayes, LaShure, Kennedy, Barefield, McMillan, etc, etc, etc. :-)

[grandbay] BJ I lost the connection but I believe you were the one who has a - connectin to the Dunnam family thrsough thte Jenkis , My gr grandfathers - were Joseph Robert on the paternal side and James Alexander on the maternal - side. one of their sister Francis was married to a Jenkins. Is that your - line?

bjs22> Where was Samuel Norris from?

[owoodson] Norrisville is located in the area we know to day as Shawnee east - of Camden off Hwy. 10. I think Norris was a merchant. When Lebanon ARP - Church closed and moved to Bethel at Oak Hill, those members from the lower - country established a church at Norrisville.

bjs22> Is there a book or publication with history of place names in Wilcox - and/or surrounding counties?

[owoodson] There is one for the state with some Wilcox names in it.

[boomack] BJ I hope that I will get a chance to meet you. I will be in - Atlanta in July for a family reunion.

bjs22> Boo, hope so too. Give me your edress and I will send my addy and - phone number. It seems we have quite a few things in common.

[boomack] Ouida are there any McCants in Wilcox?

[boomack] Do you want me to send it now or email it to you?

[owoodson] I think there are McCants here. Let me check the phone book.

bjs22> Now's OK.

[owoodson] There are several McCants listed.

[boomack] My email address is BooMack17@aol.com.

[boomack] Thanks Ouida. Were the McArthurs and the McCants related in any - form?

[VickyAL124] morgan,maness,simms,hicks ,west also have champion,green an - flowers

[owoodson] I want to say there was a connection. Right now I can remember - what or how. At least they both married into the same family or something - like that.

[owoodson] Peter McArthur and the McCants were neighbors.

[boomack] That was my assumption after looking at some records that they - married into each other families. I don't know if I asked you this before, - Ouida, but was John McArthur and Peter McArthur related? Did Peter ever move - to Meridian, Miss. for a short period of time?

[owoodson] I don't know that I ever established a relationship between Peter - and John--but believe they were brothers. Peter was in the Black's Bluff area - and John in Canton early. I don't know if Peter ever moved to Meridian for a - while.

[grandbay] Goodnite from grandbay

[VickyAL124] by grand

[boomack] I aiso believed that they were brothers, based on some oral history - by an elderly relative of mine. The John McArthur that I am researching is - definetely from the Canton area.

[owoodson] Good night.

[boomack] Goodnight Grand

bjs22> nite grand

[boomack] It appeared that there were several John McArthurs, one being his - son. Is this the John McArthur that Ms. O. Martin can be a descendant of?

>> grandbay has left channel #XC.2115614

[owoodson] Yes, it is.

[VickyAL124] morgan, maness, simms, west, hicks also green,flowers,champion- - anyone have info on these or related familys can email at - vickyal_124@yahoo.com

[boomack] Do you know is she is the only descendant of John's living in - Wilcox?

[owoodson] No, there are some others.

[boomack] Vicky, I don't have or know anyone by those names.

[boomack] Who are the others, Ouida?

[VickyAL124] boo keep searchin your bound to run into em to many by those - names in wilcox co AL

[boomack] I will keep my eyes open for you .

[owoodson] The Hines family, I know right off the top of my head--will have - to think for more. It will not be many, but as few.

[boomack] Thanks again Ouida.

[owoodson] Your welcome.

[boomack] Are they any historic tours in Wilcox this year?

[owoodson] Yes, the Fall Tour will be the third Sat. in Sept.

[boomack] What are some of the buildings and areas that are toured?

[owoodson] Three or four private homes, the Camden ARP church, the Female - Institute, these for sure.

bjs22> Well it's that time again folks. Let's call it an evening. At least - I'm going to close the log. You can continue chatting if you like.

[owoodson] It is time to end. Go again in two weeks,BJ?

[boomack] Sounds good! What is the cost? Is it advertised?
