[VickyAL] hi

[clifford34] Owoodson, have you heard when the Wilcox County, Alabama - Heritage book is out??

[clifford34] hi

[owoodson] They still tell me Dec. or later.

[clifford34] Good, It has been over a year.

[owoodson] It shouldn't be too much longer now.

[VickyAL] hum do we actully talk here or sleep

[clifford34] owoodson, does the library have copies about Wilcox County?

[clifford34] Vickyal,

[clifford34] Vickyal, your morgan line did they go to Texas?

[owoodson] Copies of what about Wilcox County?

[VickyAL] some did not direct line tho -went w/george washington Morgan

[clifford34] owoodson, history or other records that dealt with renters.

[clifford34] Vickyal, I have some of that information on his line, they - connect to my Jones over in Butler, Co.,Alabama

[VickyAL] george was bor abt 1768 SC d jan 1839 in tx

[VickyAL] neat didnt know that

[clifford34] VickyAL if you are in Greenville, Butler, Library look for the - Jones family book by June Jones Igo.

[VickyAL] have heard that george w. owned or fathered the yellow rose of tx. - emily wells morgan

[owoodson] I am not familiar with any records in particular that dealt with - renters. I have seen a few deeds that dealt with the renting of farm land - and the hiring out of slaves by some people. These documents are the only - ones I have seen concerning renting.

[VickyAL] nope in in tuscaloosa my wilcox connection comes from my moms - fathers side-

[clifford34] owoodson, I believe that Richard "Dick" Futch rented land from - the McLean or a Jones relative which one I do not know? Do you??

[VickyAL] he is a morgan from wilcox co

[clifford34] VickyAl, no but my JOnes, Nall, JOsey, Adams, Cross were related - to the Morgan in the Jones book.

[owoodson] It very well could have been McLean. Wherrie McLean had a pretty - large land holding if I remember correctly.

[VickyAL] i have some jones connections somehow some where w/mymorgans but - its hard to tell

[VickyAL] cause of way the info was written as to there were abouts

[clifford34] If you want the information e-mail me at Clmorgan@pjc.cc.fl.us I - will be out of town this weekend.

[clifford34] BJS3, on your webpage can you have more will's on the Jones or - McLean line??

[VickyAL] .

BJS3> Sure, if you have some just send them to me or if not, give me page - numbers. I have some film out on rental.

[owoodson] 1833 is a little early for most the migration from here to Texas. - They would have been among the first to go.

[VickyAL] they didnt have much fun george w died in indian raid in 1839

[VickyAL] along w/wife

[VickyAL] an several maness

[owoodson] I am sure the trip was a hard one.

[VickyAL] im sure

[VickyAL] the morgan an maness an the rest seem to join up in the carolinas

[owoodson] They did like so many other groups--moved west together.

[VickyAL] my big problem is livin in tuscaloosa coAL i dont get to wilcox co - AL often to research

[owoodson] I am sure that you will find some early land records and possibly - some probate records you would be interested in, if you haven't already - gotten the,.

[owoodson] them.

[VickyAL] well lets put it this way im lucky to get to wilcox co once year - for decortation at kelly cem. have never been to library or court house

[owoodson] Our genealogy department at the Library is quite good. Also, we - are lucky in that most of our records are available. Perhaps you will be - able to come soon.

[VickyAL] would love to but seems it takes gas an time an money these day of - which i have very little of all

BJS3> I plan to get thee next week. I HOPE! I have the time but hope the - weather cooperates.

BJS3> If I only have two days, what should I hit first?

[VickyAL] dont know about wilcox but here in tuscaloosa been pretty nice

BJS3> I'm in terested in anything I haven't already seen.

[owoodson] The weather has been good. Do you mean records or places?

[VickyAL] i need to redo an take pics of tombstones in kelly an indepencence - cems an try one year to get to courthouse/library

[VickyAL] my big problem is i hate travling by myself an its hard to get - someone to go w/

[VickyAL] me

[owoodson] The trip to CAmden is what about two to three hours from - Tuscaloosa?

[VickyAL] yes

[VickyAL] about 2 1/2

BJS3> And it's about 4 1/2 to 5 hours for me from Atlanta.

[owoodson] BJ, when you come next week, call me. Would like to meet you. - Perhaps you will have time to visit me at White Columns.

BJS3> I'd love to.

[owoodson] The phone is 682-9167. What days will you be here?

BJS3> Will let you know if/when I'm coming and we can definitely plan to get - together.

BJS3> Probably mid-week. But I won't know for sure until this weekend.

[owoodson] Good. Now back to your question, are you interested in records?

BJS3> Me?

[owoodson] Yes, you ask about what to see first, I think, or am I mistaken?

BJS3> Yes, I want to see records I might have overlooked or don't have access - to. I asked you about tax records last chat and that's something I want to - look at - the tax books.

BJS3> After that I don't know where to go.

[owoodson] There is that one small book in the PRobate office. The others - are in that little room in the room where the elevator is. Your have to get - the key from the Tax Assessor's office to get int here.

BJS3> OK, I make sure I look at those before I do anything else.

BJS3> I'm going to transcribe a coupleof cemetries too but I don't want to - plan too much to do. Not enough time.

[owoodson] I know, it seems I always have more to do than I ahve time when I - head to GA or SC.

BJS3> If I have time, I'd like to find out info about twio schools that were - once run by the Presbyterian church for Freedmen's children

BJS3> the Prairie School and Millers Ferry school

BJS3> Have you heard of them?

[VickyAL] went to millers ferry lots of time my grampa hudson worked there on - docks

[VickyAL] but dont know much about it

[VickyAL] or a freemans school

[owoodson] Have you met Mrs. Jeanette McCall? She is writing a history of - these schools. She called me a couple of weeks ago.

BJS3> No, I'd love to talk to her. Most of my aunts and uncles went to these - schools and some taught there. Mu aunt was married while she was a teacher at - the Prairie School.

BJS3> Is she local?

[owoodson] I am familiar with the schools--Judge William Henderson(the former - Yankee Calvary officer) donated the lands for the schools and got the - Presbyterian church involved.

[VickyAL] well been intrestin an fun but have to run may see you next chat - time

BJS3> nite VickyAL

[owoodson] By vickyal

[owoodson] Mrs. McCall is local. She lives at Praire.

BJS3> Ah, well she's someone I definitely want to meet.

BJS3> Is she listed?

BJS3> I'd like to talk to her before my visit.

[owoodson] She is a retired teacher and was the principle at the elementary - school on the hill in Camden. She just retired from our Library Board. I - hated to see leave it.

[owoodson] Yes, she is listed. Do you want me to check her number and send it - to you. I hated to see her leave the Board.

BJS3> If you don't think she'll mind.

[owwodson] I'm sure she would not mind. She met with some - researchers from Texas last week that I also met with.

BJS3> OK, send it to me.

BJS3> Now, what do you think is going on with the chat?

[owoodson] I don't know. I thought maybe tonight we would have more join in.

BJS3> Think I sent the notice ut too late?

BJS3> There hasn't been a digest so it's possible that some, about half, - didn't know.

[owoodson] I hope people didn't get discouraged because they had login - problems and just gave up. It might have been, but you ahd sent the notice - last week end too.

BJS3> If I send it the day before I think people forget. If same day , some - might not see it in time.

BJS3> Well, I think I'll just ask folks what's going on. Hope they respond.

[owoodson] It is hard to know which time is best. It may just be the season - of the year or some other activity that keeps them from remembering.

[owoodson] I have had several say they enjoyed reading the log. Had one or - two email me with questions after reading it.

BJS3> BTW, I connect the Wilcoxpage to the Genconnect boards. Folks will be - able to post to message boards wthout waiting for me to get around to putting - their stuff online.

BJS3> I don''t like the system but I haven't been too responsive either. - Maybe it'll help to coax more records out of prople.

BJS3> Oh, well, maybe they figure they don't have to come. They'll just read - about it tomorrow. Hahahah.

[owoodson] You have connected. Perhaps it will. I ahve a number of things I - ought to give to you, but it looks like I never have time to see what I do - have.

BJS3> I guess we'll stay with Thurs night then?

[owoodson] I have been looking for a newspaper article on the flag of the - Wilcox Dragoons for a week now--know its in a folder--just not sure which - one. I get frustrated when I can't find something.

[owoodson] Yes, let's do for a while.

BJS3> Join the club!

BJS3> OK, well I have an early day tomorrow. Will get back to you later and - thanks again Ouida.
